Update for Wednesday Aug 1
Well, a lot has happened today. I was pretty amazed at all of the crazy news coverage we had. I actually had come to the conclusion that 5 babies wasn't that big of a deal because of the recent sextuplet births. It turns that is actually is a pretty big deal. I think breaking the record helped a lot and that is something I am very happy about because it means healthier babies.
Rachelle is doing a little better. She did end up having to go on the magnesium again but it was a fairly low dose. She was feeling pretty rotten this morning but she started feeling better in the afternoon. She actually got to see all the babies for the first time today and I hope to have some video of that up on the website as soon as I get some time.
We did a press conference in the morning. It was pretty fun. All of the news media people I have met have been very nice. There was a lot of cameras there and I answered a bunch of questions about the babies, how they are doing, and how it felt to have it all happen. A bunch of it was on the evening news here in Phoenix and it feels a little silly to see myself on TV. This evening, I did see a few really great reports on
Channel 3 (ABC): (may require some registration)
Fox 10
Channel 5 (CBS).
I was actually surprised to see them because of the tragic bridge collapse that happened today. I assumed that our quintuplets would not be as interesting after news like that but I guess I was wrong.
One thing I did find out today is that we probably are not going to get any van donated despite all of the news coverage we have had. This is a bit of a bummer but I am hoping we can find a used van somewhere that will not be too expensive. Our friend Natalie Woods talked to a bunch of dealerships (she has been so helpful with this whole thing along with so many other people) and they might be able to give us a decent discount. She did say that Hewlett Chevrolet was the nicest dealership she talked to.
Natalie also told me that Randall's ( a grocery store owned by the same company as Safeway) donating 1000 diapers to us! That is really nice and should probably last us at least a month. I heard that it was originally organized through Jason Wheeler at KEYE. I have not been able to verify that but I hope to find out the specifics soon so I can thank them.
Thanks again for all your prayers and everything else.

Hi Jayson,
Congratulations to you and your wife. I'm glad she's doing fine.
I thought you may be excited to hear that you made the international news as well! Last night, I was watching the main news channel in Mexico and there was the story of the quintuplets born in Phoenix. :)

I think having all those babies must be great. But you commented that it is a bummer that a van has not been dontated to you. It would be nice if someone did, but you should not expect someone to.
To me it seems like you are entitled to have one donated, but I don't think so.

Jayson and Rachelle--
I have been posting comments the last few days and as I read your post tonight, I was caught off guard about your comment about the bridge collapse and it's significance as it compares to your circumstance. Though we live in Wisconsin, we are just 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and I work at a hospital just 15 minutes from the 35W bridge. I spent alot of tense moments last evening tracking down all of our local family members and friends, ensuring that no one was either on the way home from work or on their way to the Twins game. Despite it's tragic, tragic outcome, those of born and raised from Minnesota (myself) are carrying out our day today with a sense of grace and peace in our hearts knowing that we will all be giving a bit extra of ourselves in the days and weeks ahead. It's just that simple. So anyway...back to your post... Your family's inspirational story and remarkable outcome in the days precending today and the days to come have brought me an extra bit to look forward to and I have been ever so grateful for every word that you and Rachelle have written and the openness to share your miracle, your blessings and your story with others. I wish there was more that we could do--- I really do--- I can only imagine there has to be a dealer somewhere around up here that would just be chomping at the bit to donate a van to a family of 9 under such extraordinarly circumastances... Have someone contact Denny Hecker, the Walser family or the Luther Family (these are all large dealership franchises in the TC area--- you can google them to find out more).... Maybe there would be something there???
In the meantime, thanks for being such an incredible family...
Love,
The Jensen Family

glad to hear rachelle's feeling a bit better. i hope she's able to be off the mag soon.
i'm sorry to hear about the van donation; i know that's a blow considering the daunting task of safely transporting your family with at least a modicum of comfort. i hope that all the interest in and press coverage of your lovely family will lead a generous car dealership to help you out.
hope you guys are getting some peace and quiet and rest,
-lori
